2008-05-28 — Innovative New Responsible Tourism Training Programme Launched
A new tourism business training programme has just been launched. The Responsible Tourism Skillnet had its regional launch on Wednesday 28th May in the Benwiskin Centre, Ballintrillick Co. Sligo.
The Responsible Tourism Skillnet is a €380,000 training programme which will run until December 2009. It is funded by member companies and the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd. funded from the National Training Fund through the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment. It is managed by Sinead Barrins, who will operate from the Greenbox office.

Interreg funded Eco-Tourism Greenbox Project celebrates achievements
The Greenbox is a defined area in the North West of Ireland including all of counties Leitrim and Fermanagh as well as parts of neighbouring counties Donegal, Sligo, Cavan and Monaghan and is regarded as Irelands only developing Eco Tourism Destination. During the lifetime of this 3 year cross-border project and thanks to €723,550 part-financing by the European Union through the Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the ICBAN partnership, the project has been able to promote the establishment of the target area as an ecotourism destination, a conceptual and spatial 'Green Box' containing environmentally sustainable products, accommodation and attractions within a context of clean natural resources. The type of tourism products and activity generated that have a minimal impact on the ecology of the area, be of benefit to the community, and match the needs of environmentally friendly visitors and in doing so have encouraged economic development through low impact tourism.

The Greenbox, a cross-border ecotourism organisation, is holding Ireland's first all-island ecotourism conference. This timely and significant event, supported by the Western Development Commission, is being held in the Share Holiday Village, Lisnaskea county Fermanagh on Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st of January.
