Going Underground
at Corralea Activity Centre

"Going underground" into the depths of Fermanagh & Cavan Caves, exploring its underground passages, streams & formations, led by a qualified cave leader. Accommodation is on the same site, in a natural forest on the shores of Lough MacNean in Corralea Cottages which have been accredited the European Eco-label (EU Flower).

Arrival :

Day 1
Friday - evening between 6-9pm.
Settle in your cottage: cottages are environmentally friendly with solar panels, double glazing, wood stoves, etc...In the cottages and the centre we adhere to energy reduction, recycling and re-use of resources.
Informal briefing on the next day caving trip. The choice of caves visited will depend on weather and underground conditions but include caves such as: Marble Arch Caves, White Father's, Saint Augustine's, Coolarkin, Boho Caves, etc...
The Day trip may include a dry & wet cave.
            

Day 2
Saturday - Breakfast at your own leisure in your self-catering cottage.
10am: Meet your instructor for Day trip. 
Allocation of caving equipment.

LUNCH - bring your packed lunch. Tackle bags will be provided to transport lunches.
On the trip, you will experience, walking, crawling and wading through water. You'll witness complete darkness and discover sounds and smells of the cave environment.
Information will be given on the geology, hydrology of the Cave and its inhabitants (bats,etc...). We will share with you any folklore attached to the caves and the locality.
The Caving trip will be carried out in an environmental friendly manner as in the training given by Speleological Union of Ireland to all Cave Instructors.
We will share transport to and from the cave as to minimise environmental pollution.

In the evening you have the option of shopping in the village to prepare your own meal or book in one of the many local restaurants. Local pubs provide regular music entertainment.

Day 3
Sunday - After breakfast, 10am, wash and return all equipment to caving store.
Followed by debrief and evaluation of week-end.
Depart between 11am-12pm.
