Environment
The Donegal Language School is committed to working in harmony with the environment as far as possible. In their accommodation a recycling system is in place and students are encouraged to help reduce, reuse and recycle. Much of the food waste is composted or recycled by feeding to the schools horses and other animals! Eco- friendly products are purchased wherever possible and food is bought in bulk to cut down on packaging. All activities are within the vicinity of the accommodation and each has a minimum impact on the environment and the outdoors. These include horse riding, surfing, cycling, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing and walking.
Learning
The Donegal Language School tries to promote a sustainable lifestyle through their language and activities packages and encourage students to adopt environmentally friendly principles and practices. Riding instructors ensure that riders stick to designated trails to avoid damage to flora and fauna.
Conservation
The Donegal Language Schools guides are well equipped with knowledge on local biodiversity and how to best help maintain the beautiful countryside and wildlife. Surfing instructors teach respect for the sea and its wildlife and explain the need to protect and conserve this resource. A strict 'Leave no Trace' policy is in operation for all outdoor activities.
Benefiting the local community
All teachers employed are living locally in a predominately rural area of Ireland and 90% of activity guides are local. On cultural excursions students are taken to visit local craftspersons. By choosing the Donegal Language School you are helping to sustain these local jobs and keep skilled people in the area.
