Ard Nahoo was featured as a case study in the recent green travel guide Ecoescape:Ireland. It was also described as 'ecoheaven', because you can enjoy a very low carbon holiday and have one of the best massages in Ireland at the same time. And it is family-friendly, all of which make it a pretty unique place to stay.  That and the steam room overlooking the waters of Lough Nahoo.

Ard Nahoo was built with eco-principles from the outset, which has allowed it to grow organically incorporating good practice at every stage of its development.  From the restored barn which is used as a health farm, to the new Donegal cedar-cladded timber framed cabins for self-catering guests.  Because they invite groups for workshop weekends they offer to pick them up from any Irish location in the local eco-bus, run on vegetable oil.  Because they also have self-catering visitors, they provide a boxful of locally-produced fruit and vegetables, and because they built all their wooden cabins from scratch, they were able to use eco-friendly paints, insulate them with hemp and install wood-pellet stoves in each.  Everything is within walking distance, including the herbs to add to your vegetable box which are growing between each cabin.  Noeleen and Brendan, the owners, have created Ard Nahoo's own circular walking trails.  So, whether you want to walk to the local cheese shop in Dromahair, or cycle further afield into the Leitrim hills, using Ard Nahoo's own bikes, there is little reason to get in the car here.  Or leave the Lough's shores at all, in fact.
